Wolfe (compiler) and Jean Morris. The California Seafloor Mapping Program (CSMP) is a cooperative program to create a comprehensive coastal and marine geologic and habitat base map series for California's State waters.

Initiated inthe CSMP has collected bathymetry and backscatter data that are being turned into habitat and geologic base maps. This record is maintained in the National Geologic Map Database (NGMDB). The NGMDB is a Congressionally mandated national archive of geoscience maps, reports, and stratigraphic information, developed according to standards defined by the cooperators, i.e., the USGS and the Association of American State Geologists (AASG).Publish Year: About this map.

The State's geology is presented on eight full-color map sheets, one for each of the major islands. These map sheets, the illustrative meat of the publication, can be downloaded in pdf format, ready to print. Map scale isfor most of the islands, so that each map is about 27 inches by 36 inches.

These map sheets can be downloaded in pdf format, ready to print. Map scale isfor most of the islands, so that each map is about 27 inches by 36 inches. The Island of Hawaii, largest of the islands, is depicted at a smaller scale,so that it, too, can be shown on inch-wide paper.

This database of the geologic map contributes to understanding the geologic history of the Island of Hawai‘i and provides the basis for understanding long-term volcanic processes in an intra-plate ocean island volcanic system. In addition the database also serves as a basis for producing volcanic hazards assessment for the island of Hawai‘i.

The data layers (feature classes) that comprise the Digital Geologic Map of the Island of Hawaii include: HAVODEF (Deformation Areas), HAVODEFA (Deformation Area Contacts), HAVOFLT (Faults), HAVOGSL (Geologic Sample Localities), HAVOSYM (Fault, Fold and Other Map Symbology), HAVOVLF (Volcanic Line Features), HAVOVPF (Volcanic Point Features.
